P.O.I.N.T. Biography

Introduction

A non-governmental organization named P.O.I.N.T. (a Croatian acronym for “Promoting education, informing, journalism and technologies”) is established on 3rd of September 2004 in the city of Križevci, Croatia. The main aspiration for 21 young male and female citizens of Križevci was to organize themselves through the non-profit engagement in the fields of journalism and informing, to promote education and new technologies among the youth of Križevci.

One of the main goals of this organization is to enable its members public expressing and transparent work in above mentioned fields, as well as other fields of human engagement (like sports, culture, art, etc.). Not less important goal is continuous work on promoting informatics and building competence of citizens of Križevci in applying new technologies (like Internet, open-source solutions, wireless communication, etc.).

Planned goals will be achieved by doing the following activities: informing the local community about local and global actualities and news; e-media promotion of the city of Križevci; organizing different themed and expert lectures, courses and workshops; organizing other projects that will make benefit to local community and youth in Križevci.

The organization currently has 21 members and cooperates with members originated from Križevci that currently live abroad (Panama and Germany). Near-future plans and projects bring the cooperation with other non-governmental organizations in Križevci and across the country.

Basic Data

The organization is registered in the State Administration Office in Koprivničko-križevačka County. The register number is 06000830. Registration accomplished on 10th of September 2004.
According to the “NKD 2002″ classification, the organization is classified as a business subject by the State Office for Statistics. Master number is 1862413, numeral 10 and subclass 91330.

Projects

“Jazavac�?
2003 was the year of 40th anniversary of organized athletics trainings in Križevci area. The book named „Jazavac i njegova družba iz Ratarske šume – kronologija atletskog kluba u Križevcima od 1963.-1974. godine�? (translated from Croatian: “Badger and His Gang from the Woods – chronology of athletic trainings 1963-1974�?) was presented in the Great City Council Chamber on 30th of October 2004. Our organization was the editor/publisher of this book. Book was prepared and written by Ottone Novosel and Nada Mekovec. The first edition had 500 copies. The ISBN is 953-99805-0-X. Along with the book, a media-CD named „Križevačke staze�? (translated from Croatian: “Lanes of Križevci�?) was also presented, containing photographs-scans from the athletic contests held in the 60-ies and 70-ies of the last century.

“Five4Kids
As a non-profit organization, we initiated the international humanitarian action named “Five4Kids�? on 9th of October 2004. The goal of this action was to provide financial and other help for the children with special needs in elementary school “Vladimir Nazor�? Križevci. The action took place till Christmas 2004.
It was organized in two branches: Croatian (in Križevci and near area, with initiatives in Zagreb, Split, Čakovec and Punat on island of Krk) and German (in the city of Schönau, Germany). The financial donations were collected on bank accounts in Croatia and Germany. The media promotions were on the local radio-stations and live on the sale benches (humanitarian sale of donated artworks, etc.) in the center of Križevci. The humanitarian concert for the youth was organized, and the “Five4Kids�? brochures were distributed. The main media promotion was conducted on the Internet, by banners on friendly Web-portals, spreading information on Web-forums, news-groups, etc. The entire action fund (around 18 thousands HRK) was intended for shopping Christmas presents, equipment and didactic apparatus for the children with special needs. All bought presents and equipment were delivered to the children (number of 75), to the School for children with special needs and to the organization for providing help to persons with mental retardation. Casual Christmas ceremony when the action ended was held on 23rd of December in the School for children with special needs.
